Why my blog is not DOFOLLOW?
I found your blog on a dofollow blog list but your blog is not dofollow. You liar!
This comment I found yesterday in the list of ‘Spam’ comments hurt me much than it had to. The fate of this comment was to get a simple delete. Akismet had found it Spam and listed there.
But why he called my blog ‘not dofollow’?
- I installed Nofollow Free plugin and it says it removes ‘nofollow’ attribute from links as:
This WordPress plugin remove the “nofollow” attribute from your wordpress blog’s comments (precisely from the author’s links) and/or from the comments text links and it inserts (if you want) an image band at the top of your pages with the phrase: “NOFOLLOW FRE” to encourage your users to submit comments. The last release includes new options to replace the nofollow only when the author posted X comments before and put back the nofollow when some blacklisted words are matched. The replacement of the nofollow is also based on the users type (registered and visitor users). Every option cna be customized by the options page “NOFF”.
NoFollow Free now is multilingual, it supports English, Spanish, Italian, German, Turkish, Swedish, French, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Danish, Arabic, Croatian, Norwegian, Indonesian, Dutch, Hungarian, Chinese, Japanese, Polish amd Finnish languages.
Now it comes with a nice sidebar Widget support to show the top ten charts for the top commenters.
- Configured plugin to remove ‘nofollow’ attribute from comment links as displayed in image below
When I applied for ‘dofollow’ blog lists, they checked my blog and confirmed. Then the link to my blog was accepted for the directory. After that I have not changed link settings. How can my blog be ‘not dofollow’?
Went back to the blog and checked the comments. All the links back to the recent post of commenter’s blog are ‘nofollow’ free. Author links are set to be nofollow for them whose comments are less than 5.
Is there anything else I need to set up to make my blog ‘DOFOLLOW’? Your suggestions are considered high valued.

I will tell you a quick story when I started blogging I made my site do follow like you said then used a great no no follow ff plugin since it was easy to activate I saw red and went to town running around gragging HEY I’m NO FOLLOW
Only fools think other wise
Peace the blog is do follow the back isn’t in many spots Links is the name of the game
Anyway I thought this post was some lame why I switched to NO FOLLOW because I’m scared of Google or something .
Trust me DO FOLLOW is good
even for selfish people that HOARD PR that don’t know any better.
My only advice is be careful with SEO people trying to play you with business sites they get 10 bucks a link also check cisco’s blog it’s pr 7 do follow and Folkd is all do follow and plenty of others.
Best wishes Sites looking Excellent
I won’t drop a link but google BloggerLUV and check it and the community 2 days old

Hi John!
Thank you for the suggestions. I started this blog with an intention to accept natural flow of link juice. I was hosting it on Blogger with IntenseDebate where commentLuv could be eneabled. Later I discovered that IntenseDebate uses Java and the links there are useless whether dofollow or nofollow because java content are hidden to search engines.
That’s why I switched to wordpress and installed commentLuv, Nofollow Free plugins. If somebody is contributing their valuable words as comments, I understand, I must respect them with a linklove back to their posts. The link on commentLuv is DOFOLLOW and I’m wondering why Author link is not yet. I’m afraid I need to toil a bit with code?

Suresh, it seems to me like you’re doing everything right. It is very considerate of you to offer the “do follow”. I appreciate your approach on this issue. It is noble.

Hey Suresh, having a DoFollow blog is giving back appreciation to the commentators, so whoever wrote that spam comment should not be considered seriously. I think the new feature that limit do-follow only to commentators who had more than X comments is a smart one! and you should keep using it even though new commentators are still “nofollow”.

Hey Suresh, Who so ever was the commentator as mentioned by you in your post, is right. your blog is “Nofollow”. How to confirm it? You have many tools on web that will tell you, but still there is one sure way to find out. Right click your post, goto view source, click search in your editor, type and search Nofollow. You will find that all your comments are nofollow. All you commentators’ link is attributed rel=”nofollow”. If you wana help in removing nofollow, just send me comment file of your theme or consult me. I will solve the problem without using any plugin.

I would be thankful if you please could look upon the matter. I tried everything and still I could not make author’s link dofollow. The ‘Recent Post’ of commenter (commentLuv) is however dofollow. I’m facing some problem with theme I guess.

Finally I succeded to remove that rel=”nofollow” from comment author’s link. I had to edit the core.php file itself. I don’t know why, the plugins could not work for me. I guess there is something is wrong with my theme.

Hi Suresh, like everyone else I would congratulate you for your hard work on this issue.
I used the standard DoFollow plug-in a few years ago on my site and added my site to DoFollow list sites and I was inundated with spam comments saying “nice post” from people called “San Diego Real Estate”, etc. I got so annoyed with these comments that I deactivated the plugin, notified my visitors and the DoFollow sites. Unfortunately, the DoFollow list sites kept on listing me so I still got a lot of comment spam which I always delete.
My point is that most spammers don’t bother checking the code and, if people do, they are the sort of people you’d want commenting either because they’re only doing it for link juice.
The main thing is you seem to have genuine comments from great people rather than rubbish comments from spammers! Long may this continue!

Thank you Rob for your words and sharing your experience as well.
Regarding the discussion I wish to clarify a few points:
1. I understand the lurking of greedy spams when they see do follow, but I believe it is totally different issue than the feeling – “I must reward the comment author who contributed content to my post”. There should be different solutions for different problems.
2. There is a belief that dofollow links on comments leak PR Juice resulting reduced ranking. I’d like to test this. I have started dofollow links when my blog is PR 4. After these three months, I need to see if my PR is really decreased?
3. Genuine people will post comment, no matter dofollow or nofollow. But I guess better comments are even more probable if they know they will get reward for their well formed comments. To be honest, everybody loves link love. I am more conscious to write better comment if the comment system is offering dofollow link and even more if it is using commentLuv. I guess everybody thinks similar.
4. Though I have turned off “nofollow”, I moderate comments manually. I have enabled Akismet. I won’t approve comments if I feel it is worthless! At least I posses that right, don’t I?
Thanks once again and wish me good luck to keep continue dofollow for ever!

I see no links on your blog as nofollow!
I’m using a Google Chrome plugin called SeoQuake, which highlights every nofollow link on a page with a linethrough.
I see not a single one on your page.
Good for you for investigating!

Thank you for verifying and approving it as dofollow blog. I had to work hard and test different plugins but without success. It might be some issue with template that did not allow the author’s link to make dofollow. At last it is resolved by modifying the php file itself. Now it is completely dofollow blog which allows natural flow of link juice.

There is a FireFox Ads-on which can check if a comment is dofollow or nofollow. Search for firebug, install it then right click on the link, inspect element. If it's nofollow the source file will write it.

hey you went through a lot of pain to make your blog dofollow. Really appreciate that. Earlier I thought "what a stupid post" But after reading the post and the comments I learned a lot of things. Being a wordpress coder myself I can truely understand how helpless can sometimes we be against some issues.

I have been doing some research because I installed No Follow Free on my blog as well as some clients blogs and the rel="nofollow" was still showing in comments and in other locations. I believe that No Follow Free does not work and has been used by the developer as a way to get backlinks and pagerank… her blog has no new posts since March and she has not replied to any comments. Anything you found out in your work would be appreciated
Thanks – Glenn

I think you should use the Dofollow plugin, It works perfectly for me, I have never used the Nofollow Free plugin so do not know about it. And about checking do follow and no follow you could install the SEOQuake plugin for both firefox and chrome

Dofollow vs Nofollow attribs: Okay, here's the lowdown for all you bloggers…. There ain't no such thing as pagerank any more (it was being abused so much that google pretty much wrote it out the equation)…. Those nofollow attributes you add to links do actually hurt your site. Google splits "pagerank (to use the term loosely) to any outbound link, whether that's a dofollow or nofollow, plain and simple. Yahoo ignores the nofollow attribute and still counts the outbound link. The thing is: it may be prudent to rethink your strategy altogether- you could stop all comments altogether, remove the ability to add an outbound website link or to be really sneaky, try adding an <h> attribute to worthwhile outbound links. As Google sees bold or heading links as keywords, they may just help the ranking of your site!

Hi Suresh,
First, what a nasty comment. And good for you for trying to give back to your readers.
I've never given much thought to pagerank or anything else. I did a little testing on a different blog, made it NoFollow, and getting it up in the search engine ranks was no easier.
And I STILL got a ton of spam. So, being DoFollow, to me, is just a way to say thank you to your readers and those that leave quality comments.
Like some others I've never used the plugin you spoke of, and instead use the Do Follow plugin for WordPress. I've never had a problem with it. Knock on wood.
Anyway, thanks for thinking about your readers. And shame on the commenter for leaving a nasty comment like that. Calling people liars is not a good way to build relationships and get yourself known in a positive way.
In his/her case, they won't be known because you rightfully hit the delete button.

There’s so many reason why your blog is nofollow. But my only advise is try to choose or pick template that has nofollow attribute. When it comes to comment section it’s up to you if you want it dofollow or nofollow. Aside from that make sure you provide quality content to readers and never ever make any unnecessary posting as it affects the quality of article you offer.

Well there are many advantages of having a nofollow blog, but I think dofollow is a good idea, you get good benefits tanbiem can be encouraged to think about your blog also maintains a fresh content, but as always there is someone who just wants to get something , the spam but this also can take drastic measures.

I started out a pagerank 6 no follow comments blog for over one year. I then switched to dofollow and my pagerank fell dramatically. My traffic increased and so did my earnings, and the content stayed unique. I am one of those bloggers that supports nofollow. In my niche, all of the top sites are nofollow, so obviously it benefits them in some aspects.
