Why I Add Digg, Twitter, Reddit, FaceBook and StumbleUpon Buttons on Blog Posts?

Are you looking for plug-in or widget to show Digg, Twitter, Reddit, FaceBook and StumbleUpon Buttons on your blogger blogs? If yes, find the widget in my earlier post Add Socialize Buttons. But why should you add these buttons on your post? To advertise those social networking sites?

It is very natural, you would like to bookmark a blog post if you find it really useful and good for future reference. But how often you logged on to those services and bookmarked? I doubt if you’ve ever, except them for some first couple of times.

Yes, it is similar with your readers too! They are moved by your post. Wondered with your style of writing; the great content you have presented; very useful suggestion you’ve provided. But, do you really expect that they will open a dozen of bookmarking and social network services -  log on them and type your (1) link, (2) description and (3) tags to bookmark your page? Really? I am afraid the job is lot more than they wondered.

What if, you find the buttons of your favorite bookmarking sites on a post itself? You could just make one or two clicks to mark and share the post. Chances are very high – you’ll click those buttons.

Why people click on Digg, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook and StumbleUpon buttons?

There might be many motifs for people to click on those buttons. Following are some I figured out. You will add more.

1. They find the post very useful and wish to store for future reference.

2. They would like to thank the author of the post and reward her by sharing the post

3. Fellow bloggers understand the value of sharing and would love to do the same as they expect from others – What goes around comes around!

Why I add social network buttons for my blog posts?

1. I want to comfort my readers to bookmark and share.

2. I realize how important it is to get more shares and bookmarks. Higher the number, better search engine ranking and better exposure.

3. Badges of Digg, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook showing the good share count will inspire readers to go through the post seriously.

Now, why would you not like to add Sexy Sharing Plugin or Widget for your blogger blog? If you love to show the 'share count' on Digg, Twitter, Facebook on your post install Socialize Buttons. BlogEngage is not less important either. Why not to add a share and count button for BlogEngage too? Install BlogEngage Vote Button. Yes, Sharing Enriches! Happy Sharing!

  1. I have noticed one very important tip in this very post of yours: putting the most popular buttons to the top encourages others to make more votes. 100% agreed on that point.

PS. I’m sorry to say that, but you have a lot of misspellings and grammar mistakes in your posts. I think you need to check them before publishing.. It matters a lot!

Thank you for pointing out the weaknesses. I understand you are helping me improve. I did a second reading and tried to make it cleaner. Since I’m not native and started writing recently, I admit, I may make silly mistakes. Thanks to the friends who points them and scolds me to improve. Thank you once again.

I just hate these stupid buttons.
If I want to share a blog entry with my friends, I just copy paste the URL on my IM client, it’s fast, they’re sure to find it and I don’t bother the other people I don’t even know with links they don’t want to see.
If I want to post something on reddit/digg/anything-like-that because it’s exceptionally interesting, I just go on reddit/digg/etc and copy/paste the URL. Putting these button EVERYWHERE is just plain boring and it makes reddit/diggs/etc full of useless entries that have nothing to do on these sites.

For me, these buttons are just there to say “please, advertise my blog for free”, and this sucks.

(also, your moving favicon is really annoying.)

Thanks for the reasons you put the links on. There are always pros and cons to everything, but I agree that it gives a level of ease to your readers for bookmarking their work. The cut and paste system can be taxing, even if it is very do-able.
Plus, more and more the buttons provide a familiarity to many new readers.

  4. I actually have only used the “sociable” plugin on my WP sites. I’m going to try and see what happens if I add some others, perhaps those that you have here. I will say that bookmarked traffic is somewhat untargetted and un focused.

I use the sexybookmarks (dont let the name put you off) plugin with all my wordpress blogs and find it fits in nicely at the end of my posts and does not impact on the appearance of my posts.

Sexybookmarks is a nice and attractive pluggin, no doubt. But I found some bloggers are scared of it suspecting it increases load time.
Im my case I hardly need any more than Tweet, Digg, Facebook and Digg along with StumbleUpon button. I don’t think other networks are as popular for blogging. I don’t think everybody should agree with my view. The beauty of this world is diversity. If everybody started to like same thing, there would remain no interest, isn’t it?
