Why Bye Bye Mistique Theme from My Blog?

Astonished to find ICT Trends in new look again? Change brings freshness. I hope you’ll like this new look.

Yes I liked that Mystique theme. It was rich in feature, attractive in design and most customizable. There was some problem right since I installed it. I could not use the ‘Featured Content’ on the template. I thought it’s OK, as I don’t need to flash featured yet. I turned them on, whatever aspects were possible to activate, and I was satisfied. Thanked the developers of Mystique theme for WordPress.

Why I Selected Mystique for WordPress?

  • It has high contrast color designs. Bright gray page evolves from the deep dark background.
  • Provides option to apply two images for header – background and site logo. This enables you to give perfectly unique look for your blog.
  • Supports two column, three column with different combination. You can configure one sidebar on the left and another on the right. Provides option to specify the width of each sidebars.
  • Can be implemented for fixed width blog as well as fluid width blogs.
  • Contains tabbed sidebar widget with nice effects
  • Ready Ads implementation. Just paste the Ad Codes and use anywhere by using shortcode like [ad code=number]
  • Supports threaded comment. Shows Comments and track-backs in different tab in comment area.

Making long list short, it had everything I needed. Above all it was completely FREE. There was no forceful request to link back to the developer (http://digitalnature.ro). Is there any reason I shouldn’t be tempted to use this theme for my personal blog?

Why I had to quit Mystique theme?

It was enjoying for all these days and reflected the cosy luxury with Mystique. It was since last few weeks I started to face issues. Some of the post page turned into blank when viewed on frontende when it was perfectly OK on administrator screen. Immediately after publishing the post would load completely on the browser and when loading completed the browser is empty again and the devil circle on the Firefox tab keeps on revolving for ever. It does not happen for all the posts. Most often everything is fine but only to some random post it will always turn blank on every browser. To overcome this problem I tried different things:

  • Disabled all the plugins but problem was still there. (I traced it was not due to any pluggin)
  • Created new post and pasted all the text from infected one into new and deleted the old one. But even new post could not load. (It was not due to the URL of post)
  • Deleted everything from the post and made it empty post but I could not succeed. (I traced it was not due to any script or object embedded on the post)
  • Disabled ‘Use Jquery’ option on Theme Settings page. (This time the post loaded completely and did not turn blank)
  • Reinstalled the theme and updates many times.

I thought the problem is traced. Still, Mystique without Jquery, it was everything pale. The site looked suffering from sluggishness. All the attractive effects were lost. Comments section used to display all the comments and track-backs in two tabs but now the track-back tab is nowhere. There was a twitter bird and RSS button which would pop up from below the bar, now its sick and can’t stand up. I was totally confused and tried to look for solution. Made lots of googling. Read everything I could from forums. I was in dismay!

To make the matter worse, after some days, the same problem repeated when I post a new article. This time, ‘Use Jquery’ was already turned off. So it is not the cause anymore. What was that devil inside to engulf all my article? The pain did not stop just here. I got most irritation when I could not edit the theme settings. After making any change on settings and Save, Damn! its just wrangling to the frontend home page with same URL on address bar.

Now, there remain no option. I could not go though the every bits of code. I wish if they had a bit better support. So finally decided to move to a new theme. Lets hope, it won’t repeat anymore!

Suresh, your new theme is definitely better then the previous one. It looks more professional, clean and also very important – user friendly. Another thing I like is your social media buttons at the top and beneath each post.
    Congrats!

Thank you Omer and Tek for your reviews. One good thing about this theme is that I need not install too many plugins. Just Platinum SEO and a few security plugins. Rest everything are built in.

I had the same issue with Firefox and Google Chrome with this new theme. I could only get it to open in Safari. I think you might have been infected or hacked or something :-(

  • Theme is very important. If you don’t have a good theme then you will lose readers that judge a book by its cover. Don’t be that site. It’s not good to keep changing theme though, if you found one that works for you, keep it. So that people won’t be confused. When I got here I was like, am I in the right site? lol But it’s pretty nice.

I see some people think that Mystique is too common and it is getting used more and more because it is so powerful.
I have never had any problems with Mystique. Any glitch normally comes from updating a plugin.
Here are a couple sites that I used Mystique on but I don't think you would know it.
If you are willing to really work with the css and graphics you can have a unique look with all the power of Mystique.

Those are two of the many sites I have up with the Mystique theme. You see it is not the common black.
    Cheers

I'm sorry to hear that you had so many problems with Mystique. I haven't had any issues beyond the last WordPress update caused it to crash completely. But, it's a free template so I can't get too upset, I got what I paid for

I always find that spending a modest amount on a commercial blog theme (like one from themeforest – google it) can reap dividends.

I’ve used these before on pretty much all the blogs I’ve setup for me and for friends as they always look fantastic.

    Gives a great first impression….

    Tony.
