Suresh Lawati asked in Facebook:
which of the following is an internet service.
a. Email b. www c. Irc d. all of above.
what would be the answer? I am confused according the answer sheet.
Dear Lawati,
The services you can access when you are connected to internet or the services the Internet can offer are generally known as internet services. Some of the common services are:
WWW
World Wide Web is the collection of web sites. This is most probably the most used service in Internet. When you open any web page on your browser, you are using WWW service.
Email or electronic mails is another very popular service Internet can offer. You may use web based email services like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo mail or POP emails like the one you buy from ntc.net.np. After you have this service, you can send and receive emails.
IRC
The abbreviated form of Internet Relay Chat. It is popularly known as chatting. You can use Google Talk, Yahoo Messanger, Live messanger to use chat service. There are some web based chat services too like you do in Facebook. (by web based, I mean, you can do it from the web browser and don’t need a separate application to install)
File Transfer
You can use FTP service to transfer files from one computer to another in Internet. You an use client applications like FileZilla to upload files from your computer to server computer (any other computer in internet that has provided you the FTP address).
VoIP
VoIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. Through this service, you can do voice communications or multimedia sessions. We know it popularly as “Internet Phone”.
IPTV
IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. It is a system through which television services are delivered using the Internet protocol suite over the Internet, instead of being delivered through traditional terrestrial, satellite signal, and cable television formats.
And there are many more services the Internet can provide. I hope this clarifies a bit on your understanding. You are welcome to discuss more on the topic if you require.

Dear Sir,
I want to know about the IP address, subnet mask and gateway. And which type of the IP address will be valid or invalid in the computer which is in the network?
shkhanal on February 5, 2012
Dear Mandal,
IP Address
Each computer and network devices like routers, gateways are uniquely identified by a number and it is called IP Address. The IP Address is 32 bit numbers in IPv4 (IP version 4) and 128 bit in IPv6. (IPv6 was introduced in 1999 because 32 bit is no more sufficient for the globally expanding network)
IP Addresses looks like:
IPv4 – 192.168.15.3
IPv6 – 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334
IPv6 is gradually gaining popularity and IPv4 is still widely used.
Because the numbers are difficult for human to remember, we have domain names (the address made up of characters like yahoo.com) whenever we need to access any resource in network. You should understand that when you type domain names like yahoo.com, the DNS server in the network will resolve its IP Address and the resource is fetched through that IP Address.
Subnet Mask
The IP Address consists of two parts – network address and host address. Network address is the part of IP Address that identifies on which network the resource lies and host address identifies the computer in that network. For example in an IP address:
192.186.15.3
The part 192.168.15 may identify network and 3 may be the host address.
or
192.168 might be the network address and 168.15 may be the host address.
Thus, to remove confusion, we use subnet mast to indicate how many bits in IP Address represent network and how many for host. For the following example:
IP Address 192.168.15.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
192.168.15 is the network address and 3 is host address.
IP Address 192.168.15.3
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
192.168 is the network address and 15.3 is host address.
Gateway
Gateway is a computer or network device like router that joins two different networks (LANs). We can use Bridge is the networks to be connected are of similar system and require gateway if they are different systems.
Valid and Invalid IP Address
Regarding which IP address will be valid or invalid, you need to learn about the classes of Network and the range of IP Addresses used for special purpose for example broadcast, multicast and local loop. Any number within the allowed range are valid IP Addresses. If you are adding a new computer in network you should assign the IP Address with same network address and a unique host address in that network.
You are suggested to go through some resources mentioned below for further study:

Hope it helps you a bit?

A) Configuration
B) Download
C) Storage
D) Upload
E) Installing
i fount its answer is (D) …is it right sir….pls clarify me…
shkhanal on March 13, 2012
This question is something silly. Hard disk also is a secondary storage media. Anyway it intended to ask “the process of copying software programs into system from secondary media”.
Configuration is the task of specifying settings for a system. Downloading is to copy files or content into your computer esp. from internet or servers. Storage is to save file in secondary storage devices. Upload to to copy files or content from your computer to another esp. internet or servers. Installing is the process of adding new software or hardware into the computer system.
Hope you got the answer!

Outbox
This folder contains the emails until they are sent from your application.
Drafts
This folder contains the emails you’ve typed and saved but not clicked on Send button yet.
Sent Items
This folder contains emails you’ve already sent.
Address book
This is a tool in email applications that store the addresses of your contacts.
So, you are correct that B) Outbox is the correct answer. Please offer me the link of the page if this mistake is in ICT Trends so that I can make correction.

(1)an example of processing device would be____
a)magnetic ink reader
b)tablet pc
c)special function cards
d)scanners
e)keyboards
(2)which of the following is not a type of computer software that can be bought____
a)off-the shell
b)tailor made
c)custom developed
d)off the shell with alterations
e)all of these can be purchased
shkhanal on May 6, 2012
For Q.N.1
Scanners, Keyboards, magnetic reader are the input/output devices, so they are not processing device. Special function cards are the expansion cards that helps to extend the functionality of a computer. So, they might contain processing devices, but themselves are not processing devices. Tablet PC is a type of computer and it must be a processing device.
For Q.N.2
Of the shell is a type of software developed by companies that you can buy, install into your computer and use it directly. Package software are the example of this type of software. Tailor made or Custom developed both are same thing and refers to the software developed by hiring some computer programmers or development team to build software based on your requirement. Off the shell with alterations suggests the modification or addition to the packages software to meet your special requirement. You can get some programmers to write Macros on Access database and you can use that program to operate your business.
Whatever be the type, you can buy any of these software.
