Internet is for Porn

Its not unusual though, but every time we realize the bright side of Internet – its immense usefulness and the comfort it has brought to us – creeps the dark shadow of security risks and personal privacy.

I was reading ‘Sexual Assault via Internet’ by Steven J Vaughan-Nicholas published in pcWorld.com. Majority of Internet users are not a bit techie. They are happy with the world they have and use computers to ease their profession and life. This is where, big headed black geeks taking advantage of.

Will you put off your clothes in front of web cam for your boyfriend or girlfriend? Do you take your nude pictures to send it to your partner? Never do it on a PC connected to Internet. Luis Mijangos of Santa Ana, California has been arrested by FBI for taking over more than 100 Windows PCs and using what he found on them to extort sexually explicit videos from women and teenage girls by threatening to release their personal data.

In my previous post, I had talked about the possibility to listen you through the mobile device in your pocket even when you are not using it (Mobile Device in Your Pocket – Privacy and Safety). It was through hijacking the mic device of your phone, then capturing and sending the audio data over the telephone network up to the hijacker. Your security is vulnerable if a mobile is in your pocket! This current incident of Mijangos proves it is possible for somebody to browser through your hard disks and emails to find some sensitive aspect of you. Where the hell is a man safe?

Its already too late! Patch up the loopholes! Here are Top Ten Things to do Now to Secure Your Computer by Sean Gallagher. Steven even suggests to throw that damn Windows and rather use Linux. Will these solutions really solve the problem?

Still, there is another issue here. While I get that, as the Avenue Q song says, the Internet is for porn, I don’t think a lot of people get that if you’re going to expose yourself to a boyfriend or girlfriend over the net, there’s always a chance that it’s going to go public. If there’s some photo, video, information, whatever, that you don’t want the world to see or know about, do not put it on an Internet-connected PC. Mijangos is an exceptional case, but there are always people on the net who will take advantage of you given half a chance.

Great article about the ‘Top 10 Things to do now to secure your computer.’  I totally agree.  Having nude pictures or videos of yourself being leaked out online can come back to haunt you for the rest of your life.  If you’re a bit more on the adventurous side, then try to keep your personal pics/videos private.

Indeed, Internet is an irreplaceable thing in our century, but as all good things, it has his disadvantages as well. You can never be careful enough, especially when we talk about the innocence of our children…

Internet is pretty much the biggest spy out there. Identity theft, monitoring, government authority to spy on you. Not just explicit sites are a threat. Too bad.

  • Your computer will NEVER be completely secure, so it’s best to keep some common sense and take the necessary precautions.  In other words, keep your “home-made” amateur videos offline where they belong.  And if you do decide to take nude pics/vids of your partner, you better be sure that they can be trusted…bad breakups can make people do crazy things.

More that that, I’d recommend to avoid deleting pictures of you or your nude girlfrined (I beg your pardon) in your cell phone in a “simple way”, because all of them can be restored (and they ARE restored) when you have your cell phone repaired.

I think that’s only the beginning of the end. The only way is to change minds of humanity, but that is such unreal thing.

Wow thanks for the warning! I’m always quite Internet security aware but I hadn’t thought of this. I also agree that the majority of users really don’t consider security enough when browsing the web. Concerns aside, afraid I won’t be switching to Linux anytime soon though!

Using common sense and playing it safe can take you a long ways. But then again, there’s always the off chance of messing up without knowing and there are always those making stupid decisions online.

Well its really sad to see that but internet on the other side has provided us all an extra ordinary platform for getting knowledge.. Its all about mentality.. Who wants what?
