How to Know if Your Blog is Dofollow or Nofollow?

It’s a simple post and many friends will feel if it was required to publish! This post is for new bloggers who are still in the process of learning SEO. Essentially omgzam inspired me to produce this quick post.

For some time, I was hesitating if I should publish this post as I know most of the friends visiting this blog are much matured and know advanced and complex concept. How would they respond to find a trivial post like this. But I thought everybody is born as a child. There are huge number of new bloggers would find the post of some use!

icttrends Hey, may I ask how do you determine whether a blog is a dofollow or not? Cause I’m not sure whether mine is.Tue May 11 15:57:55 via TweetDeck

How to Know Dofollow or Nofollow Blog

Mozilla Firefox

What causes dofollow or nofollow is the rel attribute in anchor tag in HTML code of page. There is an easy way to check the source code in all browsers including Mozilla Firefox.

  1. Select some text including the link on web-page.
  2. Right click the selection and choose ‘View Selection Source’dofollow-nofollow-view-source
  3. Look inside < a > tag and check the rel attribute. If there is nofollow, it is nofollow link otherwise its dofollow.

Example of Nofollow link

nofollow-link

This is how you can identify if a link is nofollow attributed or not. But when you wish to inspect among many links you’ll certainly feel this method rather tedious. Why not to use Addons in Firefox to trace nofollow links? They will highlight the dofollow links in one color and nofollow in another, this way it would be much easier to identify just by inspecting.

How to Install Nofollow Extension for Firefox?

  • This is especially useful to people who don’t know what Do Follow and No Follow is and feel that all blogs are on the same level when it comes to promotion. Nice tip, I use this program myself and it works swell.

I see you were wondering if the info would seem trivial, but keep in mind, newer bloggers are really happy to have this type of information. Your more advanced readers should understand that you were not really posting this for them.

I go through this quite a bit, answering questions from readers and subscribers. It does make you t about the post, but in the end, it’s about helping others. :-)

If you use the Google Chrome browser, add the extension SeoQuake – you can set it to automatically linethrough all nofollow links on the page you’re looking at. VERY handy for SEO research.

Hey Suresh, Thanks for including my comment here as an example. This is really a very needed post, you don’t have to worry about that. I’m using Google Chrome and I use the SEO Site Tools extension to sniff out the DoFollow links. I think it’s important to let your readers know that if they have a DoFollow blog, make sure to get it added to a DoFollow directory. Some of my blogs are listed in http://dofollow.info which is a good directory from Kristie Hines.

I took the poll and posted this on Google Buzz & Twitter.

Interesting. I have checked using your method as well as the SEO Quake and Firefox plugins, and it appears that my blog and comments are actually dofollow and yet two people today have told me that my blog is not really dofollow.

Maybe you guys can see what you see when you check out a post with comments. It’s getting irritating.

It feels so odd to have comment author’s name ‘Internet Marketing’. I know the importance of keyword in a dofollow link, but how can I call you:

      Hi Internet Marketting!
Thanks for your wonderful words and I appreciate. At the same time I’m glad to know you now can identify without a plugin too!

I would love to implement keywordLove but it is no longer available. Can anybody help please!

  • Internet Marketing on May 13, 2010

Thank you so much for being nice and accomodating. That comment gave me a good laught but thanks really for understanding, as you said, you know how important keyword is.

    Thanks a lot.

Hi! thanks for this post and for having it commentluv enabled!

You may be interested in some new developments for CommentLuv and dofollow (and keywordluv type features)

Check out my last blog post link, it will lead you to a post that explains how to have your blog as dofollow for the last blog post links and not have to worry about dofollow bots ruining it for everyone.

it’s funny the previous comment about calling someone Internet Marketer, I don’t really agree with keywords as the name so I added another function (brand new last night) that shows the persons real name and then next to it, it shows a link using the anchor text from the users registered site name.

This only happens for registered comluv.com users which means, bots, spammers and other evil doers wont get to feel the luv. And, if a member starts behaving like an evel doer, I can ban them from one point and they no longer get to be a dofollow taker.

It’s not ready yet but comluv gold will be the one (comment) plugin to rule them all!

    happy blogging!

    Ahhh wonderful. DoFollow! Yummy!!

Tell you what since you’ve been so nice I will share a dofollow blog of my own, feel free to comment there ok? Tuscany Farmhouse Blog PR 2.

Again I really appreciate you being do-follow. I respect people’s blog and do not just comment blindly, I always try to add something of value. But can’t be bothered with ‘nofollow’ blogs. I think it’s all about giving and sharing. You are doing the right thing.

Lastly, some dirty links may give a false-positive with the Plugin. Dirty links will show up as a dofollow, when it’s in fact a redirect!

Great tips for beginners like me. I find this very helpful because whenever I search articles about it, The content is just so-so (more of keyword article it is) so it’s pretty frustrating. At least this article has quality content. Thank you.

In Chrome, just right click on a comment author link, and select “Inspect element”. Then look at the tag if it contains the nofollow attribute. You can do this for any link

Nice one!  The firefox plugin definitely makes it a lot easier to find dofollow blogs.  I first learned about dofollow blogs and thought it would be an easy to way to get back links.  What I learned is that just trying to spam actually does nothing since comments are almost ALWAYS deleted.

  • Justin on June 21, 2010

If you’re using firefox – use the plugin NoDoFollow in the article, it’s really helpful.
If your not with the browser firefox – then you should have to look at the source code, because I’m not sure that there are plugins like NoDoFollow for Opera and the other browsers.
    You’re article’s really helpful for newbies. :)
