How a New Blogger Should Start? David Risley’s Suggestions!
Just finished reading David Risley’s ‘Six Figure Blogger Blueprint’. Risley is a full time professional blogger and Internet entrepreneur. He has not only showed other bloggers how to generate six figures yearly but has proved it for him.
David has talked and discussed and shared his experience and the road from beginning to his current status in his e-book ‘Six figure Blogger Blueprint’. What dragged me immediately was his Step-By-Step Launch Plan and Roadmap. I hope David won’t mind me sharing his tips here in brief, but before that, I’m sure you’ll be tempted to read the blueprint yourself. Here goes the link: http://www.blogmastersclub.com
How a new blogger should start?
Step 1: Decide your niche
David suggests finding an intersection of ‘your interest’ and ‘what is popular’ niches – giving more emphasis to your knowledge on the topic you are blogging. If you find it hard to write posts for the niche, believe, it is not right niche for you.
Step 2: Secure Hosting and Domain Name
A self-hosted blog with a DOT COM domain name is highly recommended. When choosing domain name think about your long range plan – it should be ‘brandable & memorable’. Subdomains such as yourblog.wordpress.com are unprofessional.
Step 3: Install Blog Scripts
He calls himself evangelist for WordPress. Though there are numerous blogging scripts, he has not even spelled any of them. It should be due to his long experience with WordPress and the availability of plugins, he recommends only it. Along with WordPress you need to install the All-In-One SEO plug-in and the Google Sitemaps plug-in and set those up from day one.
Step 4: Set up Blog Theme
The fourth step David suggests is about blog theme. He recommends using free theme and modifying till you feel OK for it. It is not necessary to be overly focused at blog’s appearance at this time.
Step 5: Start Mailing List
Throughout the e-book, David kept on insisting the importance of mailing list that could convert your visitors to leads. What he believes is none of your visitors should leave your site without subscribing though it might not be always possible in practical ground. But having a mailing list from very beginning is crucial to your success as a full time blogger. David suggests to the extent of going for a paid services like Aweber for this list.
Step 6: Pillar Content
Now, its time to create your pillar content. Five or ten really killer pieces of very valuable content for your new blog – he calls them ‘Pillar Content’. This should be the showcase of your best stuff to impress any new reader – compelling him to subscribe. In case of other posts he suggests to publish them as soon as you finish since in the beginning nobody is yet reading your blog. But once it takes off he is in the side of regularity.
Step 7: Backup Draft Content
There should be always around 5 posts in draft so that they could be published when you do not find time to write new posts. This is a very good idea to maintain regularity and to fulfill your reader’s expectation.
Step 8: Create Twitter Account
Now your blog is ready to launch. He talks about a twitter account with a handle related to your niche and your real picture. He suggests to post the twitter profile in your ‘about me’ page. Find other twitter users with similar interest and develop relation with them.
Step 9: Twitter Feed
You can set Twitterfeed to tweet your latest blog posts directly your twitter account. Though you can find many services on net for this, he has mentioned only about Twitterfeed.
Step 10: Facebook Account
There is no especial instruction to set up Facebook account. He just says – set it up as you did for twitter account. But he reminds to install Facebook Twitter application so that as you get your tweets piped into Facebook automatically.
Step 11: Keep Writing
David strongly recommends to post at least once a week to make your blog fresh. If you can give more – its far more better.
Step 12: Connecting and Networking
Use the social networking services like twitter, facebook and any other you feel like joining, stat conversing and connecting with people. Try to observe the opinions of the leaders on that field.
Step 13: Research
Try to find the leading blogs in the market and subscribe their RSS feed. Be a regular reader and comment on those blogs. What a nice suggestion David offers.
