Digg Instant Notification for Friend’s Submissions
To become active digger, you must always be informed what is going on inside your community in Digg. Digg accounts 24 hours of activity for any submissions. If a submission receives sufficient responses within a day, the story becomes popular and listed in front page. Thus, the instant notification of submission is more prominent in Digg than any other networks.
Its very important to digg your friend’s submissions to expect your stories to be dugg. Its not only you are promoting them. You are participating in a community. After all, what goes around comes around as I talked in one of my previous post.
So, here goes the ‘How To’:
Get RSS Link for Your Friend’s Posts
1. Log on to your Digg account
Following is the screen immediately after I log on in my account.
2. Go to Friend’s Activity page.
Refer to the image above for the link position. Friend’s Activity page lists what your friends are doing currently. Did they added new friends, did they dugg any stories and so on.
3. Click on Submissions
On the right panel, you’ll see Filter. Click on the Submissions link under Filter to know what your friends in Digg have submitted recently.
4. Copy the RSS Link
Just above the list of submissions on the right side you will find an RSS link. Copy this link. You can right click the RSS icon and choose Copy URL.
Add Content to My Yahoo
You might prefer some other similar services but here I’m explaining on My Yahoo, due to my personal flavor.
1. Log On to you ‘My Yahoo’ account.
Enter http://my.yahoo.com in your browser and log on with your Yahoo ID and password.
2. Click on Add Content
After you log on to My yahoo, You will find a link ‘Add Content’ towards the top left inside ‘My Front Page’. Please refer the image above for link position.
3. Add RSS Feed
After you click Add Content a drop down panel will open and you’ll find ‘Add RSS Feed’ link. Click that link.
4. Enter RSS URL
Enter the URL in the box provided and click Add button. It will take a few seconds to add the RSS and a message is shown if link is valid. Now click I’m Done to see the content added in My Yahoo.
Add Alert to Get Instant Notification
Now you have the Digg Friend’s Submissions as content in your ‘My Yahoo’ page. You can open My Yahoo frequently to see if any new submissions are made. But if you prefer automated notification to your messenger, follow the procedure below.
1. Open Options and Click Alert
On the left top of every content in ‘My Yahoo’ there is an expand and compress button. To the right is Options button. click Options button to open the menu. Now click on alerts.
2. Click Add An Alert
After you click on Options >> Alert, a drop down panel opens within the content area. You can choose your mobile phone, email or instant message options for the new alert.
3. Configure and Save Yahoo Alert
You will be taken to the Yahoo Alert page where you can specify the RSS URL, notification type etc. Look at the image below:
4. Click Done
Great! Now you’ll be informed by Yahoo Messenger. Now, stay informed and be an active digger!
Happy Blogging!

The “what goes around comes around” sentence is totally true. I can’t stop wondering how people are expecting to receive digg’s on their stories when their not active at all. The above tutorial on the RSS Feeds is quite nice, since it can be a great time saver. Thanks for sharing!

Useful article. Now I just need advice on how to build up friends on the Digg website. So few of my real friends are diggers and none are really active.
