Commenting on Other’s Post Won’t Increase Your Blog Ranking

Commenting on other’s blog certainly has its advantage on your promotion and recognition but if you expect your blog will rank higher, I doubt.

Your common sense can easily identify the important links that you should follow on a post and other links that are merely there for advertising. Search engines too regard the links on signature that you post below your comment with least weight. Please, correct me if I am wrong regarding the link value as listed below.
Highest weight links – The links that author uses inside posts. These links are surrounded with text and are relevant to the context.
Medium weight links – The links inside comment text that comment author posted. These links too are surrounded by text and are relevant to the comment text.

Least weight links – The links which are appended after the comment text.

Thus it is total worthless to comment for the sake of ranking.

Then, should I stop commenting?

No, not at all. I did not mean that. I just tried to make you aware that links on comments are not worth for the ranking of your blog or site. But this is no doubt a great way of building relationship and improve your web presence. You’ll get lots of likeminded friends and blogs on your niche.

  1. You’re not 100% right.

Googlebot sees your post pages as a html code. Any links in dofollow comments equal post links, because it is still the same html page. But.. when it comes to nofollow comments, then Googlebot simply doesn’t count them, though there are other search engines.. like Yahoo, which don’t mind the nofollow attribute in links.

Noticed, that I have mentioned that “it is still the html page” ? Sometimes, on some blog platforms all the comments are redirected to other pages, that go along with the posts. In this case, comments is not a part of the post. And I find those blog platforms useless to comment on them… unless the blog itself is worthy and full of traffic. There is a lot of aspects to mention, actually…

Well.. you can look for more details in the post I’m showing here using CommentLuv.

PS. In my previous comment, which was made several minutes ago, I have told you that you have a lot of mistakes in texts.. Well, this post looks better from the standpoint of grammar.

I respect your disagreement but still I could not convince myself that Google will regard links on post and links on comments with equal value. I do not believe that Google will just count the numbers without regarding many other parameters.

It is almost useless when the comments are in other page. Moreover, recently I have moved to WordPress blog after I learn that the comments served with JavaScript are worthless for link love.

I am not talking if it would contribute to ranking — binary ‘Yes’ / ‘No’ but I’m better concerned with ‘is commenting useful technique to attempt ranking?’ We might find many other alternatives with less effort and more effective for ranking. I understand the importance of comment in building community and reputation.
